        "content": "<p>The Jakarta Provincial Government inaugurated An-Nur Floating Mosque\nin the Ancol area of North Jakarta on Friday (16 October 2026). Proposed\nby then-Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in 2019, it is the capital\u2019s\nfirst floating mosque.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said construction had been delayed for\nseveral years because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Physical construction of\nthe mosque, which is located within the Ancol complex, began only in\n2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank God, it is now complete,\u201d he said at the inauguration on\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by architect Andra Martin, the floating mosque covers 2,241\nsquare metres. It can currently accommodate 600 worshippers inside\u2014460\nmen and 140 women\u2014with space for an additional 300 worshippers in the\nplaza.<\/p>\n<p>Pramono said the mosque embodies the philosophy of a \u201cVessel of\nFaith\u201d, with its structure representing a five-pointed star. The five\npoints are inspired by the five pillars of Islam, while the building\u2019s\ncomposition is divided into five sections to symbolise the five daily\nprayers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident it will become a new landmark for religious tourism.\nVisitors will be able to visit Ancol and also see and make use of this\nmosque,\u201d Pramono said.<\/p>",
