Anggun C. Sasmi: 'It's like a marriage'<\/p>\n

For Indonesian-born singer Anggun, choosing a brand to be
\nassociated with is a decision she has mulled over for years.<\/p>\n
\"It's like a marriage. I've been waiting for it for a long
\ntime and the timing is right,\" Anggun said commenting on her
\nappointment as an ambassador for Audemars Piguet (AP), an
\ninternational brand of luxury timepieces.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old, who has turned down several offers to be a
\nmodel for several local and international products, claimed that
\nthe brand image projected by AP that the timepiece is worn by
\nindependent, smart and multicultural women interested her.<\/p>\n
\"My husband and my parents-in-law also wear the watches. It
\n(the offer to become a brand ambassador of AP) was hard to turn
\ndown,\" Anggun, who is often reluctant to talk about her private
\nlife, told a press conference recently.<\/p>\n
Her marriage to her first husband, Michel De Gea, who was also
\nher manager, was widely reported by local tabloids and
\ninfotainment programs as meeting disapproval from her parents,
\nespecially her father, the late Darto Singo.<\/p>\n
\"It's no longer an obstacle,\" revealed Anggun who has released
\n11 albums, including her hit single Snow on the Sahara (1998)
\nwhich has been sold of more than one million copies.<\/p>\n
Under the international label Universal, She has just released
\na new album titled Luminescence which consists of 18 songs,
\nincluding a hit single In Your Mind.<\/p>\n
Anggun's popularity in France and Italy is the main factor
\nbehind her selection as the AP ambassador, aside from the fact
\nthat she is an Asian. With Anggun as the brand ambassador, AP
\napparently seeks to boost its profile in Asia.<\/p>\n
\"As AP ambassador, I have visited Singapore, Malaysia and
\nSwitzerland, and many other countries,\" she said.<\/p>\n
She revealed that her contract was for four years, starting
\nlast year.<\/p>\n
\"As I said, like a marriage, I hope it will be long lasting,\"
\nsaid Anggun, who was wearing an AP Lady Royal Oak watch during
\nthe conference at Ritz-Carlton Hotel Jakarta.<\/p>\n
As a spokesperson for a different cause, Anggun was named a
\nUnited Nations' spokesperson for this International Year of
\nMicrocredit for which she took part in various concerts to raise
\nfunds for people in underdeveloped countries and tsunami victims.<\/p>\n
Many attribute Anggun's success to her talent, generosity and
\nhard work.<\/p>\n
Under the supervision of her father, Anggun released her first
\nalbum Dunia Aku Punya (I own the world) at the age of 12.<\/p>\n
Her career rose dramatically after she decided to live in
\nParis and released Snow on the Sahara in French and English
\nversions.<\/p>\n
In the album, she cooperated with producer Eric Benzi who had
\nbeen involved in the making of an album for noted singer Celine
\nDion.<\/p>\n
During her visit as AP ambassador three weeks ago, accompanied
\nby her second husband and manager Louis-Olivier Maury, Anggun
\nreceived a medal of honor from the French government, presented
\nby French Ambassador to Indonesia Renaud Vignal.<\/p>\n
Living overseas for years does not mean Anggun has lost her
\nlove for Indonesian dishes, especially her favorite Sate Padang
\n(Padang-style satay).<\/p>\n
\"In my short visit, I will meet my family and friends. And of
\ncourse, eat Sate Padang.\"<\/p>",
