Andrian rejoins national team today<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Tennis Association has confirmed
\nthat it will let Andrian Raturandang return to the Davis Cup team
\nand the 19th SEA Games training.<\/p>\n
Benny Mailili, an official of the association's National
\nTennis Board, said yesterday that Andrian would start training
\ntoday.<\/p>\n
\"In his letter of apology today, Andrian said he was sorry for
\nhis misbehavior during training,\" Benny said. \"He mentioned all
\nhis mistakes in detail, including being late for practice.\"<\/p>\n
He said that Andrian, who suffered dehydration last month in
\nManila during a Davis Cup match against the Philippines, had not
\nhad enough time to rest because he often went out late at night
\nand had visitors in his hotel room until midnight.<\/p>\n
\"He said in his letter 'if I still break the rules in the
\nfuture I will take all consequences including being dismissed
\nfrom the national team,'\" Benny said, quoting Andrian's letter.<\/p>\n
The board will pick four players for the Davis Cup team next
\nmonth for a tie against New Zealand here. It is also supervising
\nplayers' preparations for the Games, to be held here from Oct. 11
\nto Oct. 19.<\/p>\n
The association had decided to send a confidential dismissal
\nletter to the National Sports Council to avoid publicity.<\/p>\n
Andrian declined to comment yesterday saying \"I'm sorry I
\ncan't comments. I have to practice now\".<\/p>\n
The association had relegated Andrian on March 3 from the team
\nbecause of his undisciplined actions.<\/p>\n
All national team athletes who will compete at the Games are
\ntraining at the Senayan sports complex and staying at Hotel Atlet
\nCentury Park.<\/p>\n
Supervision<\/p>\n
The council, which is responsible for the team's training and
\naccommodation, set up a 24-hour supervision team yesterday to
\nobserve the athletes.<\/p>\n
\"We had tried to treat them like adults but we have just found
\nout that they must be supervised,\" Eman Sumusi, an SEA Games team
\nofficial, said yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said the council and the hotel had started relocating the
\nathletes yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"Female athletes are staying on the second floor and male
\nathletes are staying on the third and fourth floors,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The team is using 125 rooms, each holding four athletes, of
\nthe hotel's 600 rooms.<\/p>\n
\"We are accommodating about 450 athletes in 113 rooms and we
\nare trying to treat them like hotel guests,\" said the hotel's
\narea director and general manager Rodney Darwin.<\/p>\n
Eman said all athletes had to go to sleep at 10.00 p.m. on
\nwork days and at midnight on weekends.<\/p>\n
Fed Cup<\/p>\n
In an Asia Oceania Qualifying Group I match, the Indonesian
\ntennis team is scheduled to meet New Zealand today on the
\nplexipave courts of the Wellington Renouf Center, Wellington.<\/p>\n
Third-seeded Indonesia is in Group A with New Zealand, India
\nand first-seeded Chinese Taipei. Second-seeded China is in Group
\nB with Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Thailand.<\/p>\n
Benny said Indonesia had a good draw which could ensure
\nvictory in the group.<\/p>\n
\"We can beat New Zealand and India. But we have to work hard
\nto overcome Taipei to win the group,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Benny said that Yayuk Basuki, ranked 24th in the world, would
\nplay singles to take a point.<\/p>\n
\"If our second singles, either Wynne (Prakusya), Eny
\n(Sulistyowati) or Mimma (Chernovita) can also win, Yayuk will not
