Gerindra lawmaker Andre Rosiade distributed 1,000 basic food packages to residents of Rawang, Padang, whilst announcing that the Ministry of Public Works will proceed with a comprehensive flood mitigation project for the chronically flood-prone Jundul Rawang area, with tendering expected to begin by October 2026.

Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR
RI) from the Gerindra faction, Andre Rosiade, distributed 1,000 basic
food packages to residents of Rawang sub-district, Padang Selatan
district, Padang city, today. During his visit, he also conveyed news
regarding the programme to address chronic flooding in the Jundul Rawang
area.

Andre stated that the programme would definitely be carried out by
the Ministry of Public Works (PU) this year. The initiative represents
his efforts to champion a solution to the Rawang flooding problem that
residents have complained about for years.

Andre explained that the project has been incorporated into the
post-disaster management programme for West Sumatra and continues to be
overseen in the DPR RI to ensure its swift realisation. Previously,
Andre had also brought Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo to inspect
the location directly in 2025.

“We do not want to merely come bearing basic food packages, but also
bring solutions. The Jundul Rawang flood mitigation has been made a
national priority and, God willing, the tender process will begin by
October 2026 at the latest. We want Rawang to no longer be regularly
afflicted by flooding,” Andre said in a written statement on Friday (20
February 2026).

The distribution of basic food packages in Rawang was
enthusiastically received by residents, particularly ahead of Ramadan.
Beyond easing the community’s burden, the event also served as an
occasion to deliver the good news that a long-term solution to Rawang’s
flooding was within reach.

Andre emphasised that the synergy between the DPR RI, the Ministry of
Public Works, and the Padang city government demonstrated the state’s
presence amongst the people. This aligns with the commitment of
President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to accelerate infrastructure
development that addresses the needs of the public.

On the same occasion, Head of the West Sumatra Building,
Infrastructure and Area Planning Agency (PBPK) under the Ministry of
Public Works, Maria Doeni Isa, confirmed that the central government had
included Jundul Rawang in its disaster-prone area rehabilitation and
reconstruction programme.

She explained that the project would not merely repair drainage but
would also comprehensively restructure the area, including the
construction of pedestrian walkways, street lighting, and a more
integrated water flow system.

“The government is present for the people of Jundul Rawang. We are
working together with the Padang city government, which has already
prepared the detailed engineering design, and hopefully the tender
process can begin in October 2026,” she explained.

Furthermore, Maria disclosed that the disaster mitigation funding
also depended on Andre and Commission V to approve the rehabilitation
and reconstruction funds so they could be disbursed promptly.

“Hopefully what I have conveyed today can give the community greater
confidence that the government is present for Rawang and for West
Sumatra,” she said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Padang City Public Works and Spatial Planning
Agency, Tri Hadiyanto, expressed appreciation for Andre’s efforts in
championing the flood mitigation project up to the national level. He
noted that the Padang city government had prepared all technical
documents and was ready to conduct further reviews so that physical
works could commence promptly.

Tri also noted that coordination between the city government and the
PBPK Agency had been proceeding very well.

“We are ready to expedite all processes so that the benefits of this
project can be felt by the community as soon as possible,” he
affirmed.

Similarly, Chairman of Commission II of the Padang Regional
Legislative Council (DPRD), Rachmad Wijaya, assessed that Andre’s
concern for Rawang had been demonstrated repeatedly, both through social
assistance and concrete efforts to champion the flood control project.
He urged residents to support and oversee the programme to ensure it
proceeded smoothly.
",
