He criticises systematic attempts to discredit workers through issues like sembako distribution, viewing it as harassment and a deviation from the substantive struggles of the labour force. Gani appreciates public and influencer support in countering these narratives and warns of potential legal action against those spreading insults, highlighting this as a rare democratic practice.

JAKARTA - The President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Trade
Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, regrets the appearance of various
negative narratives and framing attacking the labour movement after the
May Day 2026 commemoration.

Andi Gani assesses that there are systematic efforts to discredit
workers through issues of sembako distribution and narratives far from
the substance of the struggle.

“This creates negative narratives to attack the labour movement. I
see, I monitor social media, many non-labour people are defending it.
Why suddenly those attacking sembako seem to want to bully the labour
movement, that’s what I regret,” said Andi Gani when contacted by
Kompas.com on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

According to him, such actions constitute harassment of the labour
movement.

His side emphasises that they will take serious action against
parties that insult the labour struggle.

“We will, we are discussing (bringing it to the legal realm) because
this is a serious issue and has attacked negative narratives towards the
personal leaders of the labour movement. That’s already deviating from
what we convey to society,” he stressed.

This is a democratic practice rarely found in other countries.

He also appreciates the wider public and several influencers who
instead defend the labour movement on social media and help straighten
the circulating negative narratives.
",
