Indonesian mother Sutrawati Kaharuddin says her son Andi Angga was part of a humanitarian mission travelling by sea from Marmaris, Turkey, toward Gaza when contact was lost after their convoy was reportedly intercepted by the Zionist state of Israel about 250 miles offshore. Angga's last messages urged his mother to keep reciting istighfar and draw closer to God, and to tell his sister that if contact could not be made it would mean he had discarded his phone; his family continues to seek information amid reports of interceptions.

The moment contact was lost was 3:00 pm on Monday, 18 May, when his
WhatsApp had already shown one tick, and that is when I began to worry,
Sutrawati Kaharuddin (52), told reporters at her home on Jalan Yusuf Dg
Ngawing, as reported by detikSulsel on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

Sutrawati said her son departed for Gaza from Turkey via Marmaris
Port, along with dozens of other ships. He, together with a number of
Indonesian citizens (WNI), is believed to have been intercepted by the
Zionist state of Israel during the maritime journey to Gaza.

“Her son was travelling to Gaza by sea from Türkiye at Marmaris
(Cruise Port). There were 56 ships, reportedly; 56 ships. In the
journey, before reaching 250 miles offshore, he was intercepted by the
Zionist state of Israel,” she said.

Sutrawati said the last communication with Angga consisted only of
messages urging him to continue reciting istighfar and draw closer to
Allah during the voyage. She said Angga still managed to reply before
contact could no longer be established.

“I told him that I was worried, to be careful over there, and to keep
istighfar. Usually he would reply, always saying ‘Thank you, Mother’.
But there was no reply anymore; at that time his WhatsApp had a single
tick,” Sutrawati explained.

Sutrawati said Angga had previously told his sister that if he could
not be reached one day, she should not be surprised. Angga, along with
other Indonesian nationals in the humanitarian mission convoy, had
anticipated the worst-case scenario during the humanitarian voyage.

“He said, tell Mom that if this (there is a video) don’t be
surprised. If contact cannot be reached anymore, it means I have already
thrown my phone into the sea,” he told them.

Before her son was reported as being captured by the Zionist Israel,
Sutrawati says she sought information when anxious about her missing
son. Her concern was reinforced by reports that a ship had been
intercepted before Angga’s video circulated.
",
