Ancol to host fine arts jamboree<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About 300 artists and craftsmen from across the
\ncountry are to take part in the 10-day Fine Arts National
\nJamboree beginning on Friday at Jaya Ancol Arts Market in North
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
Spokesman Mukhrijul Adli of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, the
\norganizer and manager of the area, said in a statement on
\nThursday that the Sept. 25 to Oct. 4 event would be opened by
\nMinister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Marzuki Usman.<\/p>\n
Like many other national events, the Fine Arts National
\nJamboree will be dominated by participants from Jakarta and other
\ncities in Java, such as Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Yogyakarta, Solo,
\nSemarang and Surabaya.<\/p>\n
Dancer Jemek Supriyadi from Yogyakarta, for example, is to
\nperform a pantomime Membongkar Mayat (Digging Out the Corpses).
\nHis performance will be painted directly on to a three meter by
\n13.5 meter canvas by artist Cubung, Mukhrijul said.<\/p>\n
He added that 300 items would be on offer during the event.<\/p>\n
Resident traders at the Jaya Ancol Arts Market are to
\ndistribute all of the proceeds from the sales of their materials
\nto people who have been badly hit by the prolonged economic
\ncrisis.<\/p>\n
The other, visiting, participants plan to donate one-fifth of
\ntheir revenue to the poor, he said.<\/p>\n
It is not known whether visitors will have to pay an
\nadditional fee to the Ancol park entrance ticket to see the
\njamboree.<\/p>\n
Governor Sutiyoso is also expected to attend the opening
