Ancol case to continue<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The head of the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office,
\nBasrief Arief, pledged on Thursday to continue the investigation
\nof the Ancol scandal, despite the fact that several of the
\nofficials suspected of involvement in the case had retired.<\/p>\n
\"Why not? We will continue the investigation although they
\nhave retired,\" Basrief said after attending a meeting at City
\nHall.<\/p>\n
He said the investigation was currently on hold pending
\npresidential permission to question Governor Sutiyoso as a
\nwitness in the case.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso ordered the retirement of several officials,
\nincluding the City Development Agency head Bambang Soengkono and
\nCity Planning Agency head Ahmaddin Ahmad, who were allegedly
\ninvolved in the scandal.<\/p>\n
The scandal revolves around the doubling of allowance money
\nfor several city officials and 16 councillors who traveled to
\nAustralia, Japan and South Africa last year.<\/p>\n
Basrief said \"an evaluation\" of the investigation of the
\ncouncillors would be completed next week, at which time it would
\nbe decided whether the case would be continued.<\/p>\n
The tripe were financed out of the 2000 city budget and by
\ncity-owned PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol. (jun)<\/p>",
