Ananda eyes coveted Formula One license<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian auto racing talent Ananda Mikola is
\ngunning to obtain the license to drive in Formula One races, his
\nfather has said.<\/p>\n
Although Tinton Suprapto did not elaborate on the
\nrequirements, he said Sunday his 18-year-old son would qualify
\nfor the world's most prestigious races if he finished among the
\ntop five in the Italian Formula Three circuit.<\/p>\n
If Ananda succeeds, he will be the first Indonesian Formula
\nOne driver ever.<\/p>\n
Ananda came fourth in a race Sunday, the sixth leg of the
\nchampionship series, to remain in fifth place in the overall
\nstandings with 61 points. There are four races left.<\/p>\n
"Actually Ananda has achieved his target and if he manages to
\nmaintain his performance, he may obtain the license to drive in
\nthe Formula One," veteran driver Tinton was quoted as saying in
\nSurabaya by Antara.<\/p>\n
Tinton said Italian team Minardi had shown interest in
\ncontracting Ananda for the Formula One. Ananda currently dons the
\nRC Motorsport racing suit.<\/p>\n
Ananda finished fourth in the Italian Formula Three race at
\nthe Misano circuit won by Donny Crevel of the Netherlands on
\nSunday. The Indonesian clocked 43 minutes and 00.773 seconds to
\ncomplete 29 laps over a distance of 117,740 kilometers.<\/p>\n
Italian drivers Paolo Montini and Maurizzio Mediani were
\nsecond and third in the race.<\/p>\n
Ananda is scheduled to participate in the Dutch Formula Three
\nrace at the Zanvoord circuit next week.<\/p>\n
He made his first podium finish in his two-year driving career
\nby taking second place in the fifth leg of the Italian Formula
\nThree at Imola two weeks ago. (lnt)<\/p>",
