        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Middle East analyst from the University of\nIndonesia, Muhammad Syaroni Rofii, has encouraged Indonesia to\nstrengthen multilateral diplomacy to support the enforcement of\ninternational law amid increasing pressure on the International Criminal\nCourt (ICC). The statement was made following the United States\u2019\nannouncement of a broad campaign to \u201celiminate the threat\u201d it claims the\nICC poses to its national sovereignty. \u201cIndonesia needs to encourage\nmultilateral powers to uphold international law. Forums such as the G20,\nthe OIC, and the Global South can serve as channels,\u201d Syaroni said in\nJakarta on Friday. According to him, this step aligns with Indonesia\u2019s\nactive role in sending peacekeeping troops under a United Nations (UN)\nmandate. \u201cThe loss of Indonesian military personnel on the battlefield\nunder a UN mandate can only receive justice if an organ like the ICC\nexists and is strengthened,\u201d he stated. He argued that when major\ncountries ignore international law, the potential for arbitrary actions\nbecomes much greater. Syaroni further opined that the US actions against\nthe ICC could potentially affect the legitimacy and effectiveness of the\ninternational court. Washington is seen as not welcoming the ICC\u2019s\ndecision to indict Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.\nAdditionally, the US is perceived as attempting to prevent its military\npersonnel from becoming subjects of ICC prosecution in the future. He\nsaid these developments could influence the enforcement of international\nlaw, particularly concerning the conflict in Gaza. According to him, US\nsupport for Netanyahu, who has been indicted by the ICC prosecutor,\ncould potentially obstruct the legal process. \u201cThe ICC does not have its\nown police force to try someone, so a lack of support from a major\ncountry like the US will certainly affect the legal process,\u201d he said.\nTherefore, he continued, the Gaza case requires serious attention from\nthe UN Security Council and the ICC because there are many violations\nthat end in impunity without trial. \u201cThis is a picture that cannot be\ntolerated in a civilised world,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>",
