An Assessment done among and by Drug Abusers and Addicts in Bali-
\n2003<\/p>\n
Data collected by Yakita, Yayasan Hati-Hati and Yakeba.
\nInterviews were done by addicts in recovery, reaching out to
\nother addicts many areas of Bali. The survey involved a total of
\n81 respondents, consisting of 58 males and 23 females.<\/p>\n
Summary:<\/p>\n
* Around 45.68 percent respondent mothers are housewives. An
\nestimate 64.20 percent of parents and are living together and
\n72.84 percent have a very attentive relationship with their
\nparents.
\n* 28.40 percent of respondents live in rented rooms and only
\n22.22 percent live with their parents. As many as 51.85 percent
\nof respondents used heroin on a daily basis.
\n* 28.40 percent of respondents have been using shabu-shabu for
\nthe last year. And 2.47 percent had been using heroin for more
\nthan 10 years.
\n* 20.99 percent of respondent's started smoking cigarettes when
\nthey were between 6 and 10-years-old. Around 53.09 percent
\nstarted drinking alcohol when they were between 11 and 15 and
\n40.74 percent started using illegal drugs between 16 and 20 years
\nold.
\n* 85.19 percent got their first drugs from friends.
\n* 61.73 percent got their first drugs from "hangout places".
\n* 49.38 percent of drug addicts are aged between 16 and 20 years
\nold.
\n* 87.65 percent had more than 16 friends who are drug addicts.
\n* 86.42 percent have driven a car while under the influence of
\nalcohol.
\n* 65.41 percent used drugs for the first time out of curiosity.
\n* 38.27 percent of respondents nearly always shared needles with
\nothers.
\n* 85.19 know the danger of various drugs from the mass media and
\n67.90 percent from friends.<\/p>",
