An appeal to 'Aqua'<\/p>\n
With the rainy season setting in fast, the usual floods
\nannually occurring in the city streets can be a nightmare for
\nJakartans. A reason that contributes to flooding is clogged
\ngutters. In most canals around the city, one can see many used
\nplastic water bottles blocking the drainage of water.<\/p>\n
It appears that the recycling of water bottles has not been
\neffective. Second, plastic is not biogradable for hundreds of
\nyears.<\/p>\n
The Aqua brand has become synonymous with bottled drinking
\nwater. Even for other brands, people tend to ask for Aqua. I
\nsuggest that PT Aqua Golden Mississippi, arguably the leading
\nmarket player in the mineral water industry in Indonesia, set
\naside some of their resources and work hand-in-hand with the
\nlocal administration to help implement a Gutter Cleaning Campaign
\n(\"GCC\" for lovers of acronyms). It would show that the company
\nindeed cares and is sensitive to the environment.<\/p>\n
And what is the need to use plastic bottles for drinking water
\nanyway? Could the industry not use \"biogradable\" carton boxes
\nsimilar to milk or fruit juice containers? If this is possible,
\nthe need for recycling used bottles (or small competitors
\nprobably misusing \"Aqua\" empty bottles) would totally disappear.
\nI would appreciate if someone from the bottled water industry
\nwould enlighten me on this.<\/p>\n
