Apart from engaging in many projects and vocational training,
\nthe Indonesian Association of the Disabled in Bogor, West Java,
\nis also concerned with monitoring and assessing various results
\nof development in Indonesia and in the Bogor regency in
\nparticular. Our organization, which focuses on fieldwork and
\npromoting handicrafts, also deals with general trade and other
\nservices.<\/p>\n
But we are particularly concerned by the traffic situation and
\nwould therefore like to share our opinion and offer some
\nsuggestions regarding safeguarding traffic signs and facilities
\nto benefit road users, particularly pedestrians.<\/p>\n
One example is the road that lies between Ciawi, Bogor, and
\nPacet Cipanas, Cianjur. Several pedestrian bridges should be
\nprovided at proper intervals, similar to the one built in front
\nof Hotel USSU at Cisarua and another at Cipanas market.<\/p>\n
This would eliminate heavy traffic jams on that section of the
\nhighway. Places which urgently require such bridges are on the
\ncrossroads at Ciawi highway which connects Sukabumi and Cisarua,
\nat Cisarua market, Taman Safari junction, and near Padang Sakti
\nrestaurant in Cipanas.<\/p>\n
We believe Puncak highway must be one of the most congested
\nhighways in West Java. It has so many tourist attractions, villas
\netc. that thousands of vehicles pass it at any given moment. The
\nsituation is worsened by the irregular parking that occurs
\neveryday. By providing safe crossing facilities, there would be
\nless likelihood of accidents occurring. The transportation of
\ncommodities from Cipanas to Jakarta would also be smooth.<\/p>\n
Another issue that concerns our organization and is of no less
\nimportance is our plan to build a multipurpose building which
\nwill serve as a workshop for teaching the handicapped. The funds
\nhave been made available by a sponsor, but we have yet to acquire
\nland for the building. For that we need a recommendation from the
\nWest Java governor to be addressed to two state-owned plantation
\ncompanies -- PT Gunung Mas and PT Ciliwung. With that
\nrecommendation, either one of the companies would be willing to
\ngive away a plot of land that is virtually a wasted area.<\/p>\n
We need a plot measuring 1,000 square meters, preferably close
\nto the tourism office in Bogor and not far from the two
\nplantation estates.<\/p>\n
We are waiting for a positive response from the authorities
\nconcerned.<\/p>\n
