Clemency or a pardon can be granted to a criminal after he is
\nsentenced, accepts it and then submits a request for a pardon.<\/p>\n
Abolition or reducing a sentence from death to life
\nimprisonment, as in the case of former deputy prime
\nminister\/foreign minister Dr. Subandrio, must be preceded by a
\njudge's decision.<\/p>\n
Amnesty can be given, without a judge's decision, for a wider
\nnational interest, as granted to the rebel groups PRRI and
\nPermesta during former president Sukarno's era.<\/p>\n
Though all three are within the prerogative rights of a
\npresident, granting any should be based on existing laws and a
\nsound sense of justice.<\/p>\n
Soeharto's accountability was accepted by the People's
\nConsultative Assembly, so though he stepped down on May 21, 1998,
\nit does not mean that the accountability was rendered legally
\ninvalid. An act of legal violation cannot be tried twice.<\/p>\n
Regarding the funds of his foundations, there should be a
\nlawsuit filed by the management and\/or members of the foundations
\nor by those suffering any loss. As those who have enjoyed the
\nfunds include almost all political parties, social organizations,
\ncharitable and educational institutions as well as religious
\norganizations, then according to the law, they must be punished
\nas well.<\/p>\n
My suggestion is: Just give him amnesty!<\/p>\n
