Amnesty for illegal connections<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: To reduce illegal water consumption through illegal
\npipe connections, PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ) is holding an amnesty
\nfor illegal connections for a month beginning next Monday.<\/p>\n
The program is aimed at reaching the owners and users of
\nillegal connections located in TPJ's operational areas in East
\nJakarta, Central Jakarta and North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
TPJ spokeswoman Mia Korompis Dwianto said illegal connections
\noccurred when residents and businesses obtained piped water
\nwithout first registering with the company.<\/p>\n
Illegal connections disadvantaged legal customers because the
\npractice decreased water pressure and forced customers to pay
\nhigher prices due to their water being stolen after being
\nrecorded on their water meters, she said.<\/p>\n
It also caused a loss of income to the water company and the
\nstate, while the income was needed to finance further investment
\nto improve and expand services, she said.<\/p>\n
During the amnesty, the owners and users of the illegal
\nconnections will be given the opportunity to become registered
\ncustomers without incurring any penalties or fines. --JP<\/p>",
