Amien unconcerned about PKB's plan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker
\nAmien Rais said on Saturday that he was not worried about the
\nNational Awakening Party (PKB)'s plan to return to the
\nlegislature with the main mission of unseating him.<\/p>\n
\"Please go ahead. But be sure to abide by the existing rules
\nand procedures just as we did in ousting Abdurrahman Wahid from
\nthe presidency due to his mistakes,\" Amien said as quoted by
\nAntara.<\/p>\n
PKB Secretary-General Muhaimin Iskandar said on Tuesday that
\nhis party would return to the legislature with the main mission
\nof ousting Amien for his alleged role in ousting Abdurrahman from
\nthe presidency.<\/p>\n
\"The PKB's main target will be Amien and we will be seeking an
\nappropriate time to call him to account for the numerous
\ntransgressions he has committed. We want to see him step down or
\nbe replaced,\" Muhaimin said.<\/p>\n
PKB suspended all its activities in the legislature in protest
\nagainst the special MPR session on July 23 which led to the
\nimpeachment of Abdurrahman, who is also chairman of the party's
\nadvisory council. But the party later considered the possibility
\nof reviving its faction in the legislature.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists after attending a ceremony for the
\ninauguration of Supriyanto as a professor at the school of
\nagriculture of Gajah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Amien said
\nanybody, who did not wish him to be the MPR speaker, could seek
\nthe appropriate mechanism to oust him.<\/p>\n
\"If I am proven to have made mistakes, I will surely agree to
\nstep down,\" said Amien, who is also the general chairman of the
\nNational Mandate Party (PAN).<\/p>\n
Amien further commented that the sooner the PKB revives its
\nfaction at the legislature the better it will be so as to make
\nthe legislature united again.<\/p>\n
\"Without the PKB faction in the legislature, there is
\nsomething missing as we already feel we are one family,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to him there are two approaches for the party's
\ncomeback -- \"exclusively\" or \"implicitly\". In selecting the
\nexclusive approach, the party has to clearly state the date of
\nthe revival of their faction, he said.<\/p>\n
But under the implicit approach, the party's return to the
\nlegislature means that they totally accept the results of the
\nSpecial Session, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
\"So just please feel free... choosing the exclusive way is
\nclear and the implicit way is also understandable,\" he said.
