American teacher accused of rape<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A female physician has asked city police to
\ncontinue investigating an American expatriate who she said was
\nthe father of her three-and-a-half year old son.<\/p>\n
\"I don't want to marry him. I don't need even a cent from
\nhim,\" Sri Rahayu, 36, told The Jakarta Post yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"What I need is his written statement legalized by authorized
\nofficials stating that he is the father of my son Gerry Indrabayu
\nRukmana. That's all,\" said Sri Rahayu, better known as Yayuk.<\/p>\n
Yayuk strongly believes that the father of her son, born on
\nDec. 3, 1991, is Mark Thomas Rex, 37, an English instructor at
\nthe American Language Training (ALT) center on Jl. R.S.
\nFatmawati, South Jakarta. She said the man raped her in March
\n1991.<\/p>\n
According to Yayuk, a police officer yesterday informed her
\nthat her case was being reviewed by city police investigators.<\/p>\n
It is expected that the police will soon issue an order
\nrequiring Yayuk, Rex and Gerry to have a DNA test done.<\/p>\n
\"I really hope that this case can be settled as quickly as
\npossible so that Gerry, who has bule (Caucasian) features, knows
\nthat he has a father, just like all his neighborhood friends,\"
\nshe said.<\/p>\n
Based on Yayuk's version, Rex raped her at his house in South
\nJakarta. She said Rex took her and her friend Marina to his house
\nafter she and Marina spent hours at the Oscar pub on Jl.
\nFalatehan.<\/p>\n
\"As I got drunk, I was not aware of anything until I found
\nmyself laying naked on the dirty floor of a room, probably a
\nstoreroom, at the house,\" she said.<\/p>\n
According to her, she then got up and collected her clothes.<\/p>\n
\"I suddenly realized what had happened and screamed when I saw
\nMark trying to rape Marina in another room,\" Yayuk said.<\/p>\n
Both of them left the scene in Yayuk's car immediately after,
\nshe said.<\/p>\n
Yayuk said that the whole incident occurred in one hour,
\nsaying that they had arrived at the house at around 1:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
She claimed Rex drove her car from the pub to his house
\n\"because I realized that I was drunk,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Rex could not be reached for comment yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"He's not in until Friday,\" director of the ALT office on Jl.
\nR.S. Fatmawati told the Post by phone.<\/p>\n
A month after the incident at Rex's house, Yayuk found herself
\npregnant.<\/p>\n
She said that she refused to meet Marina, who apparently took
\nRex's name card before leaving the house, following a heated
\nargument between them on their way home that morning.<\/p>\n
As attempts to encounter Rex at the pub where they initially
\nmet failed and she was unable to find his house, Yayuk decided to
\nkeep quiet about the matter and married her longstanding fiance,
\nFerry Satria, in June 1991.<\/p>\n
Realizing \"his baby\" was of mixed ancestry, Ferry refused to
\naccept the child as his and immediately divorced Yayuk.<\/p>\n
After bumping into Marina about one and a half years after the
\nincident, Yayuk discovered Rex's whereabouts.<\/p>\n
\"Mark refused to accept Gerry as his son, but accused me of
\nhaving sex with another bule,\" she said.<\/p>\n
\"I'm not that type of woman,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Yayuk claimed that the night she met Rex was the first time
\nshe had visited a nightclub and had drunk alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n
\"I went to the pub simply because I wanted to improve my
\nEnglish, as I know that the pub is frequented by English speaking
\nvisitors,\" she said.<\/p>\n
At the time Yayuk was a marketing manager at the Permata Hati
\nclinic. She now has her own small clinic on Jl. Palbatu I in
