        "content": "<p>Amerada moves to develop Ujung Pangkah<\/p>\n<p>Amerada Hess Co., and partner ConocoPhillips, signed two major<br>\nconstruction contracts on Friday to signal the start of major<br>\ninvestment to develop the Ujung Pangkah gas block in East Java --<br>\nwhere the two global energy giants act as the operator.<\/p>\n<p>The combined contracts are worth about US$110 million, a press<br>\nstatement said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Ujung Pangkah represents an exciting new investment for us as<br>\nwe build the basis of a long term business in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The project will provide a significant economic boost to<br>\nindustry in the region and, ultimately, provide a reliable and<br>\ncost effective source of energy for the local area,&quot; Amerada Hess<br>\nPresident and General Manager in Indonesia Colin Munro said in<br>\nthe statement.<\/p>\n<p>About $60 million of the deal will be spent procuring goods<br>\nand services in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The two deals have been awarded to Indonesian companies for<br>\nthe engineering, procurement, construction and installation<br>\n(EPCI) of the facilities to produce, process and supply gas from<br>\nthe field to, among other consumers, state power utility PT<br>\nPerusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN)&apos;s power generation plant at<br>\nGresik.<\/p>\n<p>The first contract, awarded to a consortium of construction<br>\nfirms PT Raga Perkasa Ekaguna (RPE) and PT PAL Indonesia, covers<br>\nthe provision of offshore facilities consisting of an unmanned<br>\nwell head platform and a 42-kilometer export line.<\/p>\n<p>The second contract, awarded to PT Inti Karya Persada Teknik<br>\n(IKPT), covers the provision of onshore processing facilities and<br>\nthe gas pipeline onward to PLN gresik.<\/p>\n<p>State gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is also<br>\nin talks with the operator to purchase about 100 million standard<br>\ncubic feet per day (mmscfd) to supply small and medium<br>\nenterprises (SMEs) in the province. -- JP<\/p>",
