        "content": "<p>Ambon, Dutch firms join to operate water plant<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT PDAM Ambon, a drinking water company owned by<br>\nthe Maluku provincial administration and NV Waterleiding<br>\nMaatschappij Drenthe of the Netherlands, will establish a joint<br>\nventure to improve the drinking water supply in the province.<\/p>\n<p>Waterleiding's president K.J. Hoogsteen said last week that<br>\nthe joint venture would begin to operate early next year.<\/p>\n<p>Hoogsteen told Antara the joint venture would operate to<br>\nimprove the Ambon Drinking Water Company's network, which he said<br>\nhad suffered a serious level of water leakage.<\/p>\n<p>Director of the Ambon company Chris Pattinaja said the leakage<br>\nin Ambon reached 34 percent due to the poor condition of the<br>\nwater pipelines in the town.<\/p>\n<p>\"Most of the pipelines were installed during the Dutch era and<br>\nhave been largely vandalized,\" said Chris.<\/p>\n<p>PT PDAM Ambon now produces 211 liters per second and 150<br>\nliters per second during the rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>Hoogsteen did not reveal the amount of investment allocated by<br>\nthe Dutch company for the project.<\/p>\n<p>He said officials of the Ambon drinking company would receive<br>\ntraining in the Netherlands, while the Dutch company would soon<br>\nsend its engineers to Ambon to start the project.
