Yusuf explained that the Balinggama Airstrip, where the plane was to\nland, is situated in a mountainous area. Weather conditions are also\nbeing taken into consideration in reaching the location. \u2018The airstrip,\nwhich is at an altitude of approximately 2,292 metres above sea level,\nis an obstacle for officers to arrive at the scene, taking into account\nthe weather conditions,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The incident was revealed through aerial video footage recorded by a\npilot from another airline who was flying over the location. Yusuf\nstated that a team would be dispatched to the scene today. \u2018Since\nreceiving the information and the circulating video, we immediately\nconducted an initial investigation and coordinated with the airline.\nHowever, to date we have not been able to confirm information regarding\nvictims because the team is still awaiting a direct check at the\nlocation,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Based on preliminary coordination, the PK-RCY aircraft was serving\nthe Wamena-Balingga-Wamena flight route using a Pilatus type aircraft.\nAccording to manifest data from the airline, the pilot of the aircraft\nis Nicholas F Goselin, a United States citizen, and he was carrying\nseven passengers. \u2018Preliminary confirmation results verify that the\naircraft fire incident did indeed occur.
