Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia \u2014 The Indonesian government is still working\non a new incentive scheme for electric vehicles. Amid the wait, electric\nmotorbike manufacturer Alva hopes the eventual policy will not only\nattract consumers but also provide certainty for industry players.<\/p>\n
CEO of Alva, Purbaja Pantja, said the company will essentially follow\nwhatever policy the government decides. In his view, various forms of\nincentive can deliver benefits as long as they are well designed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe simply follow the policy. Whatever happens, we remain grateful to\nthe government for thinking about this industry. Whether it is the\nsubsidy programme that previously ran, or the government\u2019s consideration\nof that programme\u2019s effectiveness, we go along with it,\u201d said Purbaja\nduring a media discussion in Tangerang on Monday (3\/8\/26).<\/p>\n
He judged that government support does not always have to come in the\nform of direct subsidies to buyers. Incentives could also be directed at\nmanufacturers or at building the electric vehicle ecosystem so that\nadoption accelerates.<\/p>\n
Each scheme has its own merits; what matters most is that the policy\ncan drive sustainable industry growth while giving businesses the\ncertainty needed to draw up investment plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many ways to talk about incentives. They can go directly\nto consumers, or to producers, or perhaps only the ecosystem is\ndeveloped. In our view, all of them can be effective if done well,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Alva hopes the government can design a policy that applies over a\nlonger period. Such certainty is considered important so that\nmanufacturers have a foundation for shaping their business and\ninvestment strategies.<\/p>\n
