Allowance for Angie in French Open<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Tennis Association (Pelti) met
\nSaturday and approved financial assistance for junior girls
\nsingles hopeful, Angelique Widjaja, to compete in the French Open
\njunior tournament next week.<\/p>\n
Pelti spokesman Benny Mailili said Saturday that the
\norganization decided not to provide airfare but opted to provide
\na cash allowance. However, he declined to mention the amount.<\/p>\n
\"I don't know how much allowance Pelti will provide. All I
\nknow is that the amount will be enough for Angie (Angelique's
\nnickname) to compete in the tournament,\" he said.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Pelti secretary general Soegeng Sarjadi said that
\nPelti would discuss financial assistance for Angie's journey to
\nthe tournament.<\/p>\n
Angie's father Rico Widjaja had requested Pelti assist him
\nwith the financial burden for the 15-year-old player to compete
\nin the prestigious tournament, for which it is an honor to
\nqualify.<\/p>\n
Angie qualified for the junior singles main draw of the French
\nOpen as she reached the ITF junior ranking of 38. Other
\nIndonesian senior players who have competed in the Grand Slam
\ntournament at the famous Rolland Garros stadium are Yayuk Basuki,
\nWynne Prakusya and Romana Tedjakusuma.<\/p>\n
French Open organizers have confirmed that they will provide
\nAngie with 2,000 Francs (US$273). Angie will also receive
\npersonal assistance from Pelti official in charge of athletes
\ndevelopment Sudjiono Timan of 2,000 Francs.<\/p>\n
Benny said that Pelti is negotiating with airline companies
\nabout the possibility of sponsorships for Angie and teammate Dea
\nSumantri to enable them to compete in international tournaments
\nin the future.<\/p>\n
\"Pelti official in charge of promotion Martina Widjaja is
\nstill studying the possibility. Should they get sponsorships from
\nan airline company, it would really help them to compete abroad
