        "content": "<p>Allow foreigners to buy houses<\/p>\n<p>As we are aware that after the rupiah was floated last month<br>\nit has depreciated by more than 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Now it is high time for the government to attract foreign<br>\ninvestment, especially in the real estate and property business.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the rupiah's depreciation, the property business is<br>\nalready in the doldrums as most property purchases, especially<br>\nwith respect to apartments, are required to be paid in U.S.<br>\ndollars.<\/p>\n<p>Now the U.S. dollar is becoming ever dearer and the interest<br>\nto invest or own apartments is now dwindling. If the Indonesian<br>\ngovernment allows expatriates to own property in this country, a<br>\nlot of investment can be drawn.<\/p>\n<p>This would not only pull the property business out of its<br>\n\"red\" condition but would also arrest further depreciation of the<br>\nrupiah.<\/p>\n<p>I hope the authorities will consider this suggestion and take<br>\nnecessary action to halt further devaluation of the rupiah.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing foreigners to own property like in Singapore and<br>\nAustralia would bring a lot of U.S. dollars to Indonesia and<br>\nwould even strengthen the rupiah to its pre-floated value.<\/p>\n<p>V.N.
