The Mataram Child Protection Agency (LPA) has received a complaint\nregarding alleged illegal abortion practices at a hospital in Mataram,\nWest Nusa Tenggara (NTB). In addition, a baby trafficking practice has\nalso emerged, allegedly involving an obstetrician in the area.<\/p>\n
LPA Mataram chairman Joko Jumadi revealed that the alleged illegal\nabortion practice began when the victim, who was still in high school,\nwas impregnated by her boyfriend. When the victim demanded\naccountability, the boyfriend\u2019s family instead took her to a hospital to\nhave an abortion.<\/p>\n
\u201cInitially the victim was impregnated by her boyfriend. Then the\nvictim asked for accountability, but the boyfriend\u2019s family instead took\nher to that hospital and paid for the abortion,\u201d Joko told detikBali on\nSunday (30\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
The alleged illegal abortion practice came to light after the\nvictim\u2019s family reported it to LPA Mataram last week. Based on the\nvictim\u2019s and her family\u2019s statements to LPA Mataram, the alleged illegal\nabortion occurred when the victim was under 18 years old.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victim\u2019s family only found out about a month ago. And they\nimmediately reported it to the LPA,\u201d Joko explained.<\/p>\n
Joko said the aborted foetus was two months old at the time. The\nillegal abortion was allegedly carried out at a private hospital in\nMataram.<\/p>\n
According to the victim\u2019s report, the illegal abortion fee reached Rp\n15 million. \u201cThe fee was Rp 15 million. The victim was initially given\nmedication, then experienced bleeding, and was then subjected to\ncurettage,\u201d Joko said.<\/p>\n
Joko stated that the victim is now in good health and staying at a\nsafe house. He emphasised that his team is investigating the possibility\nof other victims in the illegal abortion practice. \u201cWe suspect there are\nquite a lot. This has been going on for quite a long time,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
LPA Mataram plans to bring the alleged illegal abortion case to the\nNTB Regional Police. In addition, a suspected baby trafficking case has\nalso emerged involving an obstetrician at a hospital in Mataram.<\/p>\n
Joko revealed that his team has detected a pattern of legal\nviolations. He suspects the obstetrician in Mataram is involved in the\ntrafficking of babies born from extramarital relationships.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf a woman is pregnant, this doctor provides two options. The first\noption is abortion if the gestational age allows. If abortion is not\npossible, she will be connected with someone for adoption,\u201d Joko\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Joko said the suspected baby trafficking case at a private hospital\nemerged after receiving reports from several residents in West Lombok.\nThe illegal adoption process was uncovered after the baby\u2019s adoptive\nparents became entangled in legal problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause they were worried the baby would be affected by the problem,\nthe neighbours of the adoptive parents reported it to LPA Mataram. The\nperson who reported it was a resident who was a neighbour of the\nadoptive family,\u201d Joko said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, the biological mother of the baby is a university student\nfrom East Lombok,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Based on LPA Mataram\u2019s investigation, the doctor is suspected of\nacting as an intermediary by offering several names of women about to\ngive birth to prospective adoptive parents. According to Joko, when\nconfronted, the doctor admitted to only helping connect the parties.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt that time no one admitted it. The doctor claimed to be an\nintermediary. This doctor is already a specialist,\u201d Joko revealed.<\/p>\n
Joko said his team has cancelled the illegal adoption process. The\nbaby has been returned to its biological mother. Joko emphasised that\nLPA Mataram has coordinated with law enforcement regarding the alleged\nillegal abortion and baby adoption cases.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are communicating with law enforcement on how to handle this\ncase. The first step is to uncover the syndicate of abortion victims. We\ncannot allow this to continue.
