Deputy Chairman of Commission VI from the Gerindra Party faction and\nMember of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the West Sumatra\nelectoral district, Andre Rosiade, received the Medal of Honor from the\nJaringan Pemred Sumbar (JPS). The award was given in recognition of his\ncontributions to assisting with disaster management in West Sumatra from\nthe emergency response phase to the recovery of affected\ncommunities.<\/p>\n
The award was presented directly by JPS Chairman Adrian Tuswandi,\naccompanied by JPS Advisor Novrianto Ucok and board members at the\nMercure Padang Hotel on Sunday (5\/4). The presentation was held\nspecially because Andre was unable to attend the inauguration of the JPS\nboard for the 2025-2028 period on Thursday, 2 April, as he was carrying\nout state duties in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
JPS Advisor Novrianto Ucok stated that the award was given not\nbecause of Andre\u2019s position as a Member of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives, but due to his tangible and sustained contributions in\nhelping disaster victims. Out of more than 120 figures and institutions\nevaluated, Andre was noted as one of the most consistent in presence\nfrom the start of the disaster until the community obtained permanent\nhousing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not because he is a Member of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives. There is no connection to that. He has been present\nsince the beginning of the disaster, helping until the community\nobtained permanent housing, and to this day he continues to work for the\ncommunity\u2019s interests. He has been all out in handling the disaster in\nWest Sumatra,\u201d said Ucok in a written statement on Sunday\n(5\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
Ucok added that the award represents a form of moral appreciation\nfrom the West Sumatra community for Andre\u2019s concern, which is seen as\nexceeding his formal responsibilities as a legislator.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf there are those who like or dislike it, that\u2019s normal. But for\nus, this is the best of the best,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
JPS Chairman Adrian Tuswandi also assessed Andre\u2019s rapid response\nfrom the first day post-disaster as one of the main considerations for\nthe award.<\/p>\n
\u201cI directly followed how Mr Andre arrived at the location from the\nfirst day of the disaster. The most volunteers, the most aid, the most\nheavy equipment\u2014that was clearly visible in the field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Adrian, the award is given as a form of respect for the\ntangible work felt directly by the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf not now, when? If not JPS, who else?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In response to the award, Andre Rosiade expressed thanks to JPS. He\nsaid the recognition serves as motivation to work harder for the people\nof West Sumatra.<\/p>\n
Andre stated that the biggest challenge for West Sumatra currently is\nnot only disaster-related, but also the regional economic conditions,\nwhich he believes require joint efforts from all stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWest Sumatra\u2019s economic growth is only around 3 percent, while\ninflation reaches 6 percent. This means the community\u2019s purchasing power\nis increasingly pressured. This must be a serious concern for us all,\u201d\nsaid Andre.<\/p>\n
He also reminded the importance of stopping image-building practices\nand encouraging concrete steps for regional development, particularly in\nbringing in investment and creating new job opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cStop the image-building. What the community needs is infrastructure\ndevelopment and investment entering West Sumatra,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
Andre assessed that the lack of job opportunities is one reason many\nuniversity graduates choose to migrate outside the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is our collective homework. Regional heads must wake up from\nnegligence. Let us work seriously to build West Sumatra in a real way,\u201d\nAndre concluded.<\/p>\n
