All-Asian Debating Championships<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two teams from the English Debating Society
\n(EDS) of the University of Indonesia are currently taking part in
\nthe sixth All-Asian Inter-Varsity Debating Championships in
\nBangkok.<\/p>\n
Achmad N. Sukarsono of the university's school of political
\nscience said the Indonesian team was one of various teams from 10
\ncountries, including the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and
\nMalaysia, joining the eight-day championships, which began on May
\n10.<\/p>\n
\"It is our hope that the Indonesian teams win at the
\nchampionships,\" said Achmad, one of five EDS founding members.<\/p>\n
The first team is composed of computer science student Permata
\nHarahap and law students Ria Nuri Dharmawan and Dian Shinto
\nEkapuri. The second is composed of Judithia Wirawan from the
\npsychology faculty, Adhi Poetra Al Hosen from the economics
\nfaculty and law student Firliana Purwanti.<\/p>\n
The main sponsor of the teams' trip is consulting company
\nPrasetio Utomo-Arthur Andersen.<\/p>\n
Other sponsorships and donations were given by the rectorate
\nof the University of Indonesia, the Parents' Association of the
\nSchool of Law, The Jakarta Post and Jakarta International School.<\/p>\n
Indonesia participated the first time in the All-Asian
