An Algerian national with the initials BZ (30) soaked in Lake Sunter,\nTanjung Priok, North Jakarta, claiming it was a \u2018ritual\u2019. The foreign\nnational had in fact entered the lake twice before being evacuated by\nfire and rescue personnel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe foreign national (Algerian) was carrying out a ritual of his\nbelief by soaking in the water, which began in the afternoon and was\nsecured by the Social Service,\u201d said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations\nfor the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue\nSub-Department, when contacted on Monday (31\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
After first soaking in Lake Sunter on Sunday (30\/8), the Algerian\nnational was evacuated by the social service. In the evening, the man\nrepeated the act until he was evacuated by fire and rescue officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe foreign national then carried out the act again in the evening\nuntil 21.41 WIB, when fire and rescue personnel managed to evacuate him\nsafely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Six personnel were deployed. The evacuation process took around three\nhours before the man was handed over to immigration authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe foreign national was successfully evacuated in a safe condition\nand has been taken by Immigration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The evacuation moment was shown in a video received by detikcom from\nfire and rescue officers. In the video, the man is seen soaking in Lake\nSunter.<\/p>\n
In the video clip, the evacuation took place on Sunday (30\/8)\nevening. Fire and rescue officers can be heard communicating with the\nforeign national during the evacuation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a matter of time, this is not a matter of midnight. This\nis a matter of rules. This lake is not allowed for swimming,\u201d a fire and\nrescue officer said in English.<\/p>\n
The officer asked the Algerian national to comply with the rules. In\ntheir conversation, the topic of ritual was also discussed.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, if you respect our rules, you have to come with us. Right now,\nyou have to come with us,\u201d the fire and rescue officer said.<\/p>\n
