Alcatel's new handsets<\/p>\n
fJAKARTA (JP): Alcatel Telecom, a subsidiary of French giant
\nAlcatel Alsthom, will launch its new series of Global System for
\nMobile (GSM) terminals, the HC-1000, later this month.<\/p>\n
An executive of PT Gematel Citranusa, a private firm which
\nwill handle Alcatel handset distribution, Alie Cendrawan, said
\nhere yesterday that the HC-1000 series was the improved version
\nof the H-800 launched in Indonesia June last year.<\/p>\n
In addition to the new HC-1000, there are several other
\nAlcatel handset types available in Indonesia, including the HC-
\n400, HC-600 and HC-800 distributed by PT Sedaya Multi Investama,
\nan affiliate of the Astra Group.<\/p>\n
According to Alie, the new HC-1000 terminals offer unique
\nfeatures, setting the products apart from their competitors.<\/p>\n
He said that his company expected within a one-year period to
\ngain a 5-percent share in the country's digital cellular handset
\nmarket currently controlled by Ericsson of Sweden, Siemens of
\nGermany, Motorola of the United States and Nokia of Finland.<\/p>\n
The HC-1000 dimension is 130 millimeters in height, 59 mm in
\nlength and 36 mm in width, while its weight is 215 grams. Talk-
\ntime and standby are 180 minutes and 31 hours, respectively.
