        "content": "<p>Alcatel wins GSM contract<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Alcatel of France has received confirmation from<br>\nthe state-owned PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) to<br>\nproceed with the implementation of phase two of its GSM (Global<br>\nSystem for Mobile Communications) digital cellular infrastructure<br>\ndeployment plan.<\/p>\n<p>The French company announced yesterday that the project will<br>\ncover 18 major cities and offer a capacity of 130,000 mobile<br>\ntelephone lines.<\/p>\n<p>The project, worth around US$130 million, will encompass all<br>\nGSM network elements such as a network subsystem, radio<br>\nsubsystem, billing and subscriber administration platforms,<br>\nmicrowave transmission equipment and associated turnkey service,<br>\nthe company said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of Satelindo's GSM facilities, also<br>\nconstructed in cooperation with Alcatel, is scheduled for<br>\ncommercial operation later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Satelindo, 40 percent owned by state companies and 60 percent<br>\nby private firms, provides telecommunication services including<br>\nGSM,  satellite broadcasting and international gateways.(hen)<\/p>",
