        "content": "<p>Alcatel provides Telkom with broadband lines<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Telecommunications network provider Alcatel will<br>\nsupply state-owned telecommunication company PT Telkom with<br>\n20,000 broadband lines to provide high-speed Internet access for<br>\nTelkom's customers.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called Asymmetric Digitial Subscriber Line (ADSL)<br>\nnetwork, which will be part of Telkom's Multi-Media Access (MMA)<br>\nproject, will cover North Jakarta, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta<br>\nand Tangerang, Alcatel said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom recently launched the MMA program to meet the growing<br>\nneed of its customers in Jakarta and East Java for high-speed<br>\nInternet access.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the agreement was signed here on Friday by<br>\nTelkom president Muhammad Nazif and PT Alcatel Indonesia<br>\npresident Mazen Hamadallah<\/p>\n<p>\"Internet users today increasingly demand more than the<br>\ntraditional dial-up connections. They want high-speed and<br>\n'always-on' Internet access.<\/p>\n<p>\"By employing ADSL in our MMA project, which provides<br>\ndownstream speed of up to two megabits per second, we can cost-<br>\neffectively provide our customers with a wide range of integrated<br>\ndata, voice and video services,\" the head of Telkom's MMA<br>\nproject, Syailendra, said.<\/p>\n<p>Alacatel also said that aside from the contract to supply the<br>\nbroadband facilities, it has also been awarded a contract by<br>\nTelkom to provide a cable TV multimedia network for Jakarta and<br>\nSurabaya.
