        "content": "<p>Alatas to visit Cuba and Venezuela<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas will<br>\nvisit Venezuela and Cuba en route to New York to attend the 52nd<br>\nUnited Nations General Assembly meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Alatas is scheduled to arrive in Caracas on Sept. 15. There he<br>\nwill sign a cooperation agreement between the national news<br>\nagency Antara and the Venezuelan news agency Venpres.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuelan Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Burelli Rivas visited<br>\nIndonesia on Feb. 27.<\/p>\n<p>During the three-day visit, Alatas will discuss the prospect<br>\nof bilateral ties with Venezuelan high-ranking officials,<br>\nbusinesspeople, diplomats, non-governmental organizations, the<br>\npress and academicians.<\/p>\n<p>He will also explain Indonesia&apos;s position on the East Timor<br>\nissue.<\/p>\n<p>Alatas will arrive in Havana for a two-day visit on Sept. 18.<br>\nThe visit to Cuba reciprocates the visit by Cuban Foreign<br>\nMinister Roberto Robaina to Indonesia last year.<\/p>\n<p>In Havana, the Indonesian foreign minister will also sign a<br>\ncooperation agreement between Antara and Cuba&apos;s Prensa Latina.<\/p>\n<p>He will also lead the first meeting of the Indonesia-Cuba<br>\nJoint Commission.<\/p>\n<p>After his brief stop in the two Latin-American countries,<br>\nAlatas will then fly to New York.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Guetemala City, Indonesia&apos;s permanent<br>\nrepresentative to the UN, Makarim Wibisono, who is also<br>\naccredited to Guetemala, submitted on Thursday his credentials to<br>\nGuatemalan President Alvaro Arzu Irigoyen.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony Makarim and President Alvaro exchanged<br>\nviews on several matters.<\/p>\n<p>The Guatemalan president, in his capacity as leader of the<br>\nCentral American Summit, also expressed willingness to convey<br>\npositive and constructive views on the East Timor problem to<br>\nCentral American leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The Central American leaders will gather at a summit meeting<br>\nheld in El Salvador today.
