        "content": "<p>Alatas special envoy for Myanmar<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Former foreign minister Ali Alatas said here on<br>\nWednesday he would soon leave for Myanmar as a special envoy of<br>\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri to urge for the release of pro-<br>\ndemocracy leader Aun San Suu Kyi.<\/p>\n<p>\"I am now just waiting for confirmation from Myanmar regarding<br>\nwhen I could be there,\" senior diplomat Alatas said after meeting<br>\nwith the President at her official residence on Jl. Teuku Umar in<br>\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Alatas said he would convey the wish of Indonesia and other<br>\nmembers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)<br>\nexpressed during the Asia-Europe Ministerial (ASEM) conference in<br>\nBali last July.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting the ASEAN member countries urged Myanmar to<br>\nimmediately release the opposition leader Suu Kyi.<\/p>\n<p>Alatas said he hoped he could visit Myanmar before the ASEAN<br>\nsummit, which will be held in Bali on Oct. 7-8. -- JP<\/p>",
