Alatas awarded honorary doctorate<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: Professors at Diponegoro University will confer on
\nMinister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas an honorary doctorate for
\nhis diplomacy skills and his contribution toward the development
\nof legal science.<\/p>\n
Rector Muladi announced here Sunday the presentation ceremony
\nwill coincide with the university's 40th anniversary on Nov. 28.<\/p>\n
So far, the university has awarded similar honors to a total
\nof 16 ministers of the current cabinet, 40 ambassadors from ASEAN
\ncountries, and members of the Organization of Islamic Conference
\nand European Economic Community.<\/p>\n
At the ceremony, Alatas will give a speech on \"Indonesia's
\nContribution toward an Improved World Order.\"<\/p>\n
Muladi said Alatas, who graduated in 1956 from University of
\nIndonesia's Law School, deserves the honor because of his
\nreputation in the fields of law, humanities, community
\ndevelopment, and because of his personal integrity, achievements
\nand loyalty.<\/p>\n
Alatas is a man \"without flaws,\" Muladi said.<\/p>\n
The rector said the university decided to confer the degree on
\nAlatas after a three-month study of his achievements, after
\nobtaining approval from the Ministry of Education and Culture,
\nand based on the input of a number of foreign diplomats. (har\/swe)<\/p>",
