        "content": "<p>Akbar's post-election fate<\/p>\n<p>The conflict within the Golkar Party following the<br>\npresidential election is now reaching a head, with senior leaders<br>\nFahmi Idris and other members bringing their cases to court to<br>\nseek an annulment of their ousting by the party's central board.<\/p>\n<p>Fahmi is also demanding a national conference be held to seek<br>\nthe accountability of Akbar Tandjung as Golkar leader because of<br>\nthe Nationhood Coalition's failure to effectively support<br>\nMegawati Soekarnoputri in the runoff.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Fahmi will urge Akbar to step down because of the<br>\npolitical collapse, before the national conference removes him<br>\nfrom his office.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Fahmi and his followers should have exercised<br>\nrestraint by avoiding any defiance of the central board, which<br>\nled to their dismissal. This is in view of Akbar's contribution<br>\nand sacrifice to rescue the party.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the reform period, through the perseverance of<br>\nAkbar, Golkar survived despite its failure to direct during the<br>\nNew Order.
