Akbar ready for probe over alleged scam<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): House of Representatives Speaker Akbar Tandjung
\nsaid on Tuesday that he was ready to be questioned by the police
\nin connection with a report about his alleged involvement in a
\nland scam.<\/p>\n
"I am ready to give my explanation if I am summoned by the
\npolice or any authorized officers," he told reporters at his
\noffice.<\/p>\n
The National Ombudsman Commission earlier received reports by
\na man named Kurnia Ananda, who claims to be a close relative of
\nAkbar's, about the alleged forgery of the deed to a
\n90,000-square-meter plot of land in Srengseng subdistrict, Kebon
\nJeruk district, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Akbar, who is also chairman of the Golkar Party, acknowledged
\nthat Kurnia was a son of his late brother, Dato Usman Zaharuddin
\nTandjung.<\/p>\n
However, Akbar declined to talk about the dispute, saying he
\nhad authorized a lawyer to handle the case.<\/p>\n
"This is a family affair, and in this case it is between me
\nand my nephew. Let him (the lawyer) give an explanation," he said
\nas quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
The case adds to the problems Akbar is facing, following
\nattacks on Golkar offices in several areas, including in Jakarta,
\nand the demand for the dissolution of Golkar.<\/p>\n
But Akbar said the issues did not affect his performance at
\nthe House.<\/p>\n
On Monday, lawyer Andi Wahyudin Jalil, who represents Kurnia
\nAnanda and his two brothers, Taufik Ananda and Indra Ananda, said
\nthat the alleged land scam had been reported to the police five
\nyears ago, but so far the case had not been settled.<\/p>",
