Akaindo settles dispute amicably<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city water contractors' association
\n(Akaindo) amicably settled its dispute with city-owned water
\ncompany PDAM Jaya and its two foreign partners -- Pam Lyonnaise
\nJaya (Palyja) and Thames Pam Jaya (TPJ).<\/p>\n
The head of Akaindo, Win Gaza, said on Monday that a
\nmemorandum of understanding to end the dispute was signed by
\nrepresentatives of Akaindo and PDAM Jaya's partners on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n
The agreement to end the dispute, which began when Akaindo
\nfiled a lawsuit over allegedly unfair business practices, was
\nfinalized at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\"Under the agreement, both Palyja and TPJ will train Akaindo's
\n450 contractors to deal with the city's water problems,\" Win
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"In return Palyja and TPJ are free to employ our contractors
\nin their projects,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Bernard Lafrogne of Palyja explained that the training would
\ninclude teaching several new methods for the installation and
\nrepair of water pipes.<\/p>\n
Last September, 17 lawyers representing Akaindo filed a
\nlawsuit against Governor Sutiyoso, PDAM Jaya and nine other
\nparties over a cooperative agreement on water management.<\/p>\n
The lawyers asked the court to revoke the agreement between
\nPDAM Jaya, Palyja and TPJ.<\/p>\n
The lawyers claimed the agreement was illegal because it only
\nbenefited the foreign companies and PDAM Jaya. (ylt)<\/p>",
