        "content": "<p>Airlines to be involved in anti-drug campaign<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications<br>\nJoop Ave said here yesterday that his office would require all<br>\ncommercial aircraft operating in the country to support the<br>\ngovernment's anti-drug campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Joop said airplanes would be required to announce shortly<br>\nbefore landing at the country's airports that Indonesia was<br>\ncombating drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Joop said his office would hold meetings with the immigration<br>\noffice of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of<br>\nTransportation to discuss the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\"This is my office's action to participate in the campaign<br>\nagainst drug abuse,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Indonesia's six scheduled air carriers, there<br>\nare some 40 overseas airlines which fly to 19 international<br>\nairports in the archipelago.<\/p>\n<p>Other related tourist industries would also be involved in the<br>\nanti-drug campaign, Joop said after signing an agreement with<br>\nPutra Astaman of the Bersama Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, the minister donated Rp 100 million<br>\n(US$28,000) to support the foundation's program in fighting<br>\ndrugs.<\/p>\n<p>Astaman, a retired police major general and chief of the<br>\nfoundation, also signed agreements with state-owned enterprises<br>\nsupervised by the Ministry of Tourism, Post and<br>\nTelecommunications.<\/p>\n<p>Joop said PT Pos Indonesia, for instance, could create a<br>\nspecial postage mark featuring the anti-drug campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\"The company usually handles about 600 million letters a year,<br>\nthe postage mark would be an effective way to fight drugs,\" he<br>\nsaid. \"There's a lot we can do if we really want to.\"<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, a member of the National Commission<br>\non Human Rights, Bambang W. Suharto, said the rights body would<br>\nintroduce the concept of the right to be free from drugs to<br>\ninternational, Asian and ASEAN human rights bodies. (icn)<\/p>",
