        "content": "<p>Airlines stop some fights from Surabaya<\/p>\n<p>Indra Harsaputra, The Jakarta Post, Surabaya<\/p>\n<p>Due to ever-rising aviation fuel prices, several domestic<br>\nairlines have either reduced or closed down several Surabaya-<br>\nbased flights since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Juanda Airport duty manager Wuriatmo said on Tuesday that the<br>\nairlines shut down the routes to make their operations more<br>\nefficient following the price hikes.<\/p>\n<p>The price of aviation fuel has risen by almost 30 percent from<br>\nRp 3,563 (37 U.S. cents) per liter in January to Rp 4,630 per<br>\nliter in June.<\/p>\n<p>Merpati Airlines reduced the number of daily flights from<br>\nSurabaya to other destinations from 12 to nine, while Lion<br>\nAirlines eliminated one of its 12 Surabaya-Jakarta flights.<\/p>\n<p>National carrier Garuda Indonesia has cut down the number of<br>\nits daily flights departing from Juanda Airport from 30 to 26.<br>\nGaruda has reduced a number of flights on its Surabaya-Jakarta<br>\nroute and closed down the operation of its Surabaya-Makassar<br>\ndirect flights.<\/p>\n<p>Pelita Air has also shut down its Surabaya-Makassar direct<br>\nflight along with its Surabaya-Timika service, but retains its<br>\nSurabaya-Denpasar and Surabaya-Bandung routes.<\/p>\n<p>Bouraq Airlines and Mandala Airlines have closed down their<br>\nSurabaya-Banjarmasin routes. In addition, Bouraq has also stopped<br>\nthe operation of its Surabaya-Balikpapan flight, leaving its only<br>\nSurabaya-Makassar route still operational.<\/p>\n<p>Flights between Surabaya and Yogyakarta have been suspended by<br>\nboth Mandala and Batavia Air.<\/p>\n<p>Wings Air has also closed its Surabaya-Kupang and Surabaya-<br>\nKendari routes, leaving it only with its Surabaya-Jakarta,<br>\nSurabaya-Denpasar and Surabaya-Banjarmasin routes.<\/p>\n<p>Wuriatmo said he did not think the airlines would be able to<br>\nreopen or reoperate the closed routes any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The airlines are still reluctant because of fluctuating fuel<br>\nprices,&quot; he said.<\/p>",
