        "content": "<p>Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met\nwith the Ambassador of Kuwait to Indonesia, Khalid Jassim Alyassin, in\nJakarta recently. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in\ntrade, investment, and energy. In the energy sector, Kuwait Foreign\nPetroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) is involved in eight oil and gas\nexploration activities in Indonesia, including in Buton Island, the\nNatuna Sea, and East Kalimantan. \u201cThe KUFPEC Indonesia BV consortium has\nalso carried out oil and gas exploration in the Anambas region,\u201d\nAirlangga stated. Energy sector cooperation between Indonesia and Kuwait\nhas been well-established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on\nOil, Gas, and Petrochemical Cooperation agreed upon in 2019. Beyond\nenergy, the two nations have also agreed on several other MoUs,\nincluding an MoU on the Establishment of a Joint Commission, an MoU on\nEconomic and Technical Cooperation from 2007, and an MoU on Trade\nCooperation from 2007. \u201cThe various MoUs held by both countries\ndemonstrate the significance of Indonesia\u2019s role for Kuwait,\nparticularly in the economic field,\u201d said Ambassador Khalid. Minister\nAirlangga and Ambassador Khalid committed to overseeing the\nimplementation of these MoUs to ensure they provide optimal benefits for\nenergy security and bilateral relations. Furthermore, both parties\nagreed to push for the acceleration of the Indonesia-Gulf Cooperation\nCouncil (GCC) Free Trade Agreement negotiations, which are targeted for\ncompletion by the end of 2026. Economic relations between Indonesia and\nKuwait are showing a positive trend. In 2025, total trade between the\ntwo countries increased by 10.69% to USD 606 million, up from USD 547.5\nmillion in 2024. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti investment in Indonesia rose from\nUSD 290,000 in 2024 to USD 1.2 million in 2025, dominated by the oil and\ngas sector. \u201cIndonesia and Kuwait have diplomatic relations built on a\nstrong foundation. This is important for expanding bilateral\ncooperation. Both countries agree to continue working together on energy\nsecurity amidst geopolitical uncertainty,\u201d Airlangga remarked. This was\nthe second meeting between the two, following their first encounter\nduring the presentation of Ambassador Khalid\u2019s Letter of Credence to\nPresident Prabowo in November 2025.<\/p>",
