        "content": "<p>Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has\ninvited Chinese companies to invest in the development of a 100 gigawatt\n(GW) solar power plant (PLTS) project in Indonesia as part of efforts to\naccelerate the national energy transition. The target for solar power\nplant construction is in line with President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s\ndirective to support the energy transition and industrial downstreaming.\nThe Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting the 100\nGW solar capacity to be realised by 2029. \u201cIndonesia appreciates China\u2019s\ninvestment involvement in the construction of the Cirata Floating Solar\nPower Plant. The project demonstrates the significant potential for\nIndonesia-China cooperation in supporting the energy transition, clean\nenergy development, and achieving emission reduction targets,\u201d Airlangga\nHartarto said in a statement received in Jakarta, quoted from Antara,\nSaturday, 18 July 2026. According to Airlangga, the solar panel industry\nalready operating in Indonesia still has room to be strengthened through\nthe development of a more complete and integrated solar industry supply\nchain domestically. The investment invitation was conveyed by Airlangga\nduring a bilateral meeting with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao\nin Shanghai. The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation in the\nfields of economy, trade, investment, energy transition, and regional\ncooperation between Indonesia and China. Airlangga noted that China\nremains Indonesia\u2019s largest trading partner. In 2025, the trade value\nbetween the two countries reached USD154.6 billion, with an average\ngrowth of 7.24 percent during the 2021-2025 period. In the investment\nsector, China is also one of the top three foreign investors in\nIndonesia. Realised Chinese investment in 2025 reached nearly USD8.1\nbillion, or about 13 percent of total foreign investment entering\nIndonesia. The investment primarily flowed into the processing industry,\ntrade, energy, property, and transportation and warehousing sectors.\nDuring the meeting, Airlangga also discussed strengthening cooperation\nthrough the Two Countries Twin Parks (TCTP) scheme. To date, 30\nmemoranda of understanding have been signed with an estimated investment\nvalue of around IDR37.1 trillion. Airlangga stressed the importance of\nfollowing up on these various agreements into concrete investment\nprojects. He also encouraged the formation of joint ventures between\nIndonesian and Chinese business actors to accelerate the implementation\nof cooperation within the TCTP framework. \u201cThe various Memoranda of\nUnderstanding that have been signed need to be followed up immediately\ninto real investment. We also encourage the formation of joint ventures\nso that TCTP cooperation can produce more concrete economic benefits,\u201d\nAirlangga said on Friday, 17 July 2026. In addition, the government\nhopes that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce can encourage more Chinese\ncompanies to invest in the development of industrial estates and\ncommercial areas in Indonesia. In the trade sector, Indonesia is pushing\nfor a more balanced trade relationship through increased market access\nfor national products, strengthening industrial downstreaming,\nincreasing exports of value-added products, and export-oriented\ninvestment. Airlangga assessed that Danantara Indonesia can play a role\nas a strategic partner in attracting quality investment, strengthening\nnational production capacity, developing priority projects,\nstrengthening supply chains, increasing technology transfer, creating\njobs, and supporting more balanced bilateral trade. On regional economic\ncooperation, Indonesia also requested China\u2019s support for the\nestablishment and placement of the Regional Comprehensive Economic\nPartnership (RCEP) Secretariat in Indonesia. The government is also\nencouraging the strengthening of the RCEP 3.0 agenda to respond to\nchanges in global trade, digital transformation, and supply chain\ndynamics. Ahead of the APEC 2026 summit in China, Airlangga expressed\nIndonesia\u2019s support for China\u2019s chairmanship and hoped both countries\ncould begin identifying priority projects to be announced at the\nleaders\u2019 meeting. \u201cThe Indonesian government is committed to maintaining\npolicy certainty and creating a conducive investment climate.
