Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has assured that the Agreements on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Indonesia and the United States will proceed despite the US Supreme Court's cancellation of Trump's reciprocal tariff policy. The agreement will enter force after ratification and a 90-day transition period, with zero tariffs maintained for over 1,800 Indonesian tariff lines whilst the general reciprocal tariff has been reduced from 19 to 15 per cent.

JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga
Hartarto has affirmed that the reciprocal tariff trade agreement, or
Agreements on Reciprocal Trade (ART), between Indonesia and the United
States remains in force.

The US Supreme Court previously annulled the reciprocal tariff policy
implemented by President Donald Trump. Airlangga stated that the
agreement does not take immediate effect after being signed.

The agreement remains pending ratification and a 90-day transition
period.

“It has not been annulled. The agreement only takes effect after 90
days and after ratification,” Airlangga said when met at the Ministry of
Manpower Office in Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).

Airlangga confirmed that zero tariff facilities for more than 1,800
tariff lines of Indonesian products remain a crucial component of the
agreement. These facilities are expected to expand export market access
to the United States.

“Zero tariffs for more than 1,800 tariff lines are one of our main
assets, so we hope the export market can continue to develop,” he
said.

The general reciprocal tariff previously imposed at 19 per cent on
Indonesian products has now decreased to 15 per cent. The reduction
follows the tariff import policy that applies uniformly to all
countries.

“The 19 per cent tariff has now become 15 per cent,” Airlangga
said.

Indonesia had previously requested that the US maintain zero per cent
import tariffs for national flagship products in accordance with the ART
agreement.

This request was made after the US Supreme Court annulled the
emergency tariff policy that has been in place since last year.

The ART document allows 60 days for both countries to ratify the
agreement. Implementation of the ART may undergo adjustments following
policy dynamics in each country.

Airlangga stated that Indonesia is open to a general import tariff of
10 per cent. The government continues to request tariff exemptions for
flagship commodities such as coffee, cocoa, and other agricultural
products in accordance with the ART document.

The government also requested that the US maintain zero per cent
import tariffs for flagship industries such as textiles and apparel.

Airlangga explained that Indonesia still has the legal opportunity to
enjoy these tariff exemptions. This facility is contained in a
presidential order or executive order that differs from the regulations
annulled by the US Supreme Court.
",
