        "content": "<p>JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga\nHartarto compared the rupiah\u2019s exchange rate against the US dollar over\nthe past two decades.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that current pressure on the rupiah is far more controlled\ncompared to previous periods.<\/p>\n<p>Airlangga said that between 2004 and 2014, the rupiah depreciated by\naround 40% over a decade.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, domestic inflation surged to 17% in 2005 due to\nglobal oil prices hitting $140 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, between 2014 and 2024, the rupiah\u2019s depreciation was\nlower at 30.6% with inflation kept much more controlled at around\n3%.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Now, in the 2014-2024 period, the rupiah depreciated by 30.6% and\ninflation was 3%. So there\u2019s a quality difference over the past two\ndecades,\u2019 Airlangga said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that current conditions are better as domestic inflation\nremains low, while the rupiah\u2019s weakness this year has been relatively\nlimited.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Today, we maintain inflation at 2.4% and the rupiah has depreciated\nby 5%,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Airlangga said Indonesia\u2019s economic fundamentals are currently\nstronger than in the past.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the corporate and banking sectors remain solid despite\nglobal pressures and international financial market volatility.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Our fundamentals are solid, and the corporate sector is also\nentirely solid. As I always say, our economy remains strong,\u2019 he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks came amid the rupiah\u2019s weakening against the US dollar.\nMarket data showed the US dollar exchange rate at around Rp17,700 per\ndollar on Monday morning.<\/p>",
