        "content": "<p>The Nongsa-Changi (NCC) underwater cable system has officially\ncommenced operations. The infrastructure connecting Indonesia via Batam\nand Singapore spans approximately 50 kilometres.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto\ncompared the length of the infrastructure to the Jakarta-Bogor distance,\nwhich is also 50 km. There is a difference between the two, however, as\nthe NCC can be traversed at a speed of 0.2 milliseconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine the same distance from Jakarta to Bogor, 50 kilometres,\nwhich takes more than an hour because of traffic jams. There are no\ntraffic jams on this digital route. So, congratulations!\u201d Airlangga said\nat the Nongsa Changi Landing Ceremony on Monday (20\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He also described the infrastructure, which has a capacity of more\nthan 1.6 petabytes, as extraordinary. According to Airlangga, the NCC\nforms the physical foundation of a new digital corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Airlangga said the celebration was not merely about a\nconnecting cable, but also about celebrating stronger digital\nconnectivity between two neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us build this digital corridor, not only with cables and data,\nbut with a partnership built on mutual trust,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>On the same occasion, Gan Kim Yong, Singapore\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister\nand Minister for Trade and Industry, said the Nongsa-Changi underwater\ncable stands as proof of the close relationship between the two\ncountries.<\/p>\n<p>With this infrastructure, Gan explained, it would bring more\nopportunities for Singapore, Indonesia and the ASEAN region,\nparticularly with the signing of the Digital Economic Framework\nAgreement expected by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>It is also hoped the project will open opportunities for companies\nfrom both countries to collaborate, including for communities to gain\nnew skills and experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUltimately, economic cooperation delivers value through the\ncapabilities we build, the businesses we grow, and the opportunities we\ncreate for our people,\u201d Gan explained.<\/p>",
