Aircraft maker to halt activities<\/p>\n
BANDUNG, West Java: The management of state aircraft
\nmanufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia will shut down its operation
\nfrom Thursday until next Tuesday following a strike by its 9,300
\nworkers on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The strikers, from the Workers Communication Forum, demanded
\ncompany director Jusman S. Djamal step down for not tripling
\ntheir basic salaries.<\/p>\n
\"The time off will give both employees and the management a
\nchance to negotiate,\" company spokesman Rakhendi Triyatna told
\nThe Jakarta Post on Wednesday, without elaborating on the
\ncompany's stance on the strike.<\/p>\n
Rakhendi said the workers could return to the job next
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
Jusman asserted earlier that the company did not have the
\nmoney to meet the workers' demand.<\/p>\n
He also said the company was nearing the deadline for the
\ncompletion of two CN-235 aircraft ordered by South Korea and
\nanother CN-235 ordered by Brunei.<\/p>\n
\"If the strike continues, a solution will be reached at the
\ngeneral shareholders meeting,\" Jusman said.<\/p>\n
Workers protested in June to demand the company's management
\nbe restructured. This action was followed by the resignation of
\nthe company's marketing director, Ilham Habibie, the son of
\nformer president and PT Dirgantara founder B.J. Habibie.(25\/bby)<\/p>",
