Indonesia AirAsia has adjusted flight schedules on several domestic and international routes in response to the government's recent policy addressing surging jet fuel prices, including a fuel surcharge increase to 38% for all aircraft types. The airline apologises for the inconvenience to passengers and is rationalising capacity on low-margin routes to ensure operational sustainability, while appreciating government incentives like exemptions on aircraft parts duties and a 11% VAT subsidy for economy domestic tickets worth Rp 1.3 trillion monthly. These measures aim to balance industry pressures and maintain affordability for travellers.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Indonesia AirAsia has made adjustments to
flight schedules on several routes, both domestic and international, in
recent days. The airline has expressed apologies for the inconvenience
experienced by passengers due to this policy.

This is in response to the strategic policy issued by the government
on Monday (6/4/2026), to address the surge in jet fuel prices. This
includes adjustments to the flight fuel surcharge, which has now been
increased to 38% for all types of aircraft, from the previous 10% for
jets and 25% for propeller aircraft.

Acting Director General of Indonesia AirAsia, Capt. Achmad Sadikin,
explained that this step is part of efforts to maintain operational
continuity amid the dynamics of the aviation industry facing cost
pressures.

“These adjustments are carried out as part of efforts to maintain
service continuity amid ongoing operational dynamics,” said Capt. Achmad
in an official statement on Monday (6/4/2026) night.

Although the fuel surcharge adjustment has been made to around 38%,
this step is deemed not fully able to cover the surge in costs.

Therefore, the airline is carrying out capacity rationalisation and
gradual operational adjustments, particularly on routes with limited
margins, to maintain service stability.

“We understand the inconvenience felt by passengers and apologise for
this situation. We are striving as much as possible to ensure that every
passenger still receives appropriate handling options,” said
Capt. Sadikin.

On the other hand, Indonesia AirAsia also appreciates the
government’s steps in maintaining the balance of the national aviation
industry, including through the fuel surcharge adjustment policy and the
exemption of import duties on aircraft parts.

“The fuel surcharge adjustment policy and the provision of import
duty exemption facilities for aircraft parts are strategic steps that
provide room for airlines to maintain operational continuity,” he
explained.

In the new policy related to transportation and fuel, the government
is also providing incentives in the form of Government-Borne Value Added
Tax (PPN DTP) of 11% for economy class domestic flight tickets, with a
subsidy allocation of Rp 1.3 trillion per month.

“The 11% PPN DTP policy for economy class domestic flight tickets is
also seen as helping to maintain affordability of prices for the
public,” he continued.

Through this policy, passengers are given options such as schedule
changes without charge within a 30-day period, provision of credit
accounts via AirAsia MOVE for subsequent transactions, to full refund
options.

“We will continue to monitor the development of the situation and
coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure that flight services continue
to run optimally and provide comfort for passengers,” he emphasised.
",
