Air show opens in Bali<\/p>\n
BULELENG, Bali (JP): State Minister of Tourism and Culture I
\nGde Ardhika opened a three-day international air show, the
\nBuleleng Fly-In 2001, on Friday morning at Lt. Col. Wisnu
\nairfield in Sumberkima, Gerogak district, about 65 kilometers
\nwest of Singaraja, the Buleleng regency capital.<\/p>\n
Minister of Transportation Agum Gumelar and Air Force
\nChief of Staff Commander Marshall Hanafie Asnan failed to
\nattend the show. They were represented by subordinates.<\/p>\n
Bali Governor I Dewa Made Beratha also failed to show
\nup. Only Buleleng Regent Wiratha Sindhu accompanied
\nArdhika at the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n
"I hope that the airfield can be transformed into a
\nmore representative one," Ardhika, who hails from Singaraja, said
\nduring his opening speech. Ardhika, however, demanded that the
\nlocal government together with the Indonesian Aerosports
\nAssociation (FASI) carry out a comprehensive study before the
\nairfield is developed into a center for aerosport in Bali.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Buleleng Regent Wiratha Sindu said the
\nair show would be an annual event. "We plan to
\nlengthen the runaway to accommodate more types of light
\naircraft," said the regent about one of his ambitious plans.<\/p>\n
Some unexpected technical problems occurred prior to
\nthe opening ceremony. A number of light aircraft failed to land
\non the runway, while numerous participants could not obtain
\nflight approval from related agencies. (52)<\/p>",
