Air Force officer held for abusing houseboy<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Police have detained an Air
\nForce first lieutenant for allegedly abusing his male
\nhousekeeper, an official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Deputy Commander of the Jakarta Military Police Lt. Col.
\nDarmadi said First Lt. Setiabudi, who works at the Air Force
\nHeadquarters, was picked up at his residence in Duren Sawit Baru
\nhousing complex, East Jakarta, on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
\"He confessed to having severely beaten and burned his
\n24-year-old houseboy, Suparjo, who has been under intensive care
\nat Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital since the attack,\" Darmadi
\ntold The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Setiabudi is being detained at the military police
\nheadquarters in Guntur, South Jakarta, pending further
\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
\"We are currently trying to establish the motive for the
\nattack. He has told officers that he lost control.<\/p>\n
\"Basically he said he was upset because of his family's
\nfinancial problems. Apparently he took his anger out on the poor
\nhouseboy,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Setiabudi was arrested several hours after he reported his own
\ncrime at the East Jakarta Police precinct.<\/p>\n
According to East Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Syahrir Kuba,
\nSetiabudi at first confused the authorities with his honest
\naction.<\/p>\n
\"After noting down his confession we let him go home under
\npolice escort while some of my men tried to verify his claim,\"
\nSyahrir said.<\/p>\n
The police then contacted the military police and handed over
\ndossiers on the case to them.<\/p>\n
Suparjo, the houseboy, received severe wounds to his face,
\nback and feet.<\/p>\n
He told media on Wednesday that his employer frequently struck
\nhim with metal bars and beat him on the face.<\/p>\n
Setiabudi could be charged with abuse under Article 351 of the
\nCriminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of five years
