        "content": "<p>AIDS spouses to have counseling<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore is to make it mandatory for spouses<br>\nof people with AIDS to undergo counseling, health minister Yeo<br>\nCheow Tong was reported on Friday as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The move was aimed at overcoming the problem of people with<br>\nAIDS not wanting their families to be informed of their<br>\ncondition.<\/p>\n<p>Yeo said the Infectious Diseases Act would be changed this<br>\nyear to make the counseling of AIDS carriers and their families<br>\nmore effective, and give the health ministry \"greater<br>\nflexibility\" over confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of September 1998, a total of 871 cases of human<br>\nimmunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among Singaporeans had<br>\nbeen reported. The first case was detected in 1985.<\/p>",
