        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital\nAffairs Nezar Patria stated that Indonesia needs to strengthen the\nfoundational infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence (AI) so\nthat it does not merely become a user, but is able to take a role in the\nglobal AI supply chain. He assessed that global AI competition has\nshifted from application development to mastery of supporting\ninfrastructure such as energy, data centres, chips, computing, and\ntalent. \u201cWe have been preoccupied with playing downstream, but we have\nforgotten the upstream. In fact, the downstream is just the final\nproduct, which is perhaps more suitable for countries that position\nthemselves as markets, while the upstream, this AI infrastructure, is\nvery important,\u201d Nezar said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on\nThursday. According to him, Indonesia has great potential to enter the\nglobal supply chain. One path is through the wealth of available natural\nresources, such as silica sand. \u201cIndonesia\u2019s potential to enter the\nglobal supply chain is quite large. If we look at the infrastructure\nneeded to make semiconductors, silica sand is required. There are\napproximately 340 million tonnes of silica sand reserves in Indonesia,\u201d\nsaid Nezar. \u201cSo, I think downstreaming is not just a slogan.\nDownstreaming is the downstream processing of minerals and other\nmaterials. This is a strategic step that must be executed by all\nstakeholders in Indonesia, especially in the electronics industry, which\nis currently moving very dynamically,\u201d he continued. Nezar hopes that\ncollaboration among stakeholders in the infrastructure sector can\nincrease Indonesia\u2019s bargaining position so that it can create a choke\npoint in the global supply chain. \u201cIt requires the collaboration of all\nstakeholders in this infrastructure field to strengthen our bargaining\nposition.
