Artificial intelligence (AI) is\nnow beginning to reach the rice fields through a trial of the\nSustainable Agriculture Ecosystem \u2013 Alternate Wetting and Drying (SAE\nAWD) Rice Programme, implemented in Brebah, Jogotirto, Sleman Regency,\non Monday (22\/6). This innovative programme is the result of a strategic\ncollaboration between agricultural innovators IndraAgri and BIOPS. The\ninitiative also receives full support from various international and\nnational institutions, including the Rabu Biru Foundation, GIZ German\nCooperation, Hi Incubator, and the CAST Foundation. The SAE AWD Rice\nProgramme integrates the alternate wetting and drying irrigation method\nwith a digital ecosystem based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and AI.\nThis technology is designed to assist farmers in making more precise\ndecisions regarding irrigation, fertilisation, and real-time monitoring\nof field conditions. Data collected by various sensors in the field is\nprocessed by AI algorithms to provide accurate recommendations to\nfarmers. Bagoes, an innovator from IndraAgri, emphasised that the\npresence of AI is not intended to displace the human role in the rice\nfields. Instead, AI is positioned as an intelligent partner for farmers\nfacing the increasingly unpredictable challenges of climate change. \u201cAI\nbecomes a partner in making data-based decisions. With the support of\nsensors and precise analysis, farmers can manage their land more\nefficiently, increase productivity, and simultaneously support\nlow-emission agriculture,\u201d Bagoes explained. Echoing this sentiment,\nSholikin, the head of the Sedyo Makmur II Farmers\u2019 Group, welcomed this\ndigital transformation with optimism. He hopes this technology can\nreduce production costs, which have long been a burden for farmers. \u201cWe\nhope this technology truly provides benefits, from saving water to\nincreasing harvest yields and farmers\u2019 welfare,\u201d Sholikin stated. Fitri,\na Field Agricultural Extension Officer from the Sleman Regency\nAgriculture Office, views this collaboration as an ideal prototype for\nmodern agriculture in Indonesia.
